BREiN Forces Leaseweb To Give Userdata
|
In a setback for Leaseweb, a Dutch web hosting company, a court ruled the provider must shut down the private BitTorrent site Everlasting.nu. Additionally, according to the BREIN press release, the identity of the website’s owner must also be divulged.
The group reportedly sent a cease and desist letter to Everlasting and Leaseweb, initiating legal action after neither company chose to cooperate. According to BREIN, Leaseweb must comply with the request to disable the site and divulge the owner’s personal information or face legal ramifications. The penalty for keeping the website online is 2.000 euro per day, with a maximum of 200.000 euro.
Everlasting, and its plausable predecessor Ladytorrent have already been targetted once by BREiN. Ladytorrent was shut down in spring 2006 when BREiN contacted their former hosting provider, Pcextreme. BREiN says that not long ago after that, the torrent site resumed at another host. They even used the same nicknames.
“Leaseweb is a known provider of illegal sites,” says BREIN. “This verdict is the beginning of breaking down this safe haven for illegality. More cases will follow. They must comply or BREIN will sue.” |
