BDRip & HDDVDRip
Since the end of januari 2007, rips of Blu-Ray & HD-DVDs have been released in the scene. A couple of groups have managed to rip HD movies to a regular DVD. Usually they are have a resolution of 720p or 1080p and are encoded using the X264 codec. There are still just a few groups which are able to rip them; up till now DEFiNiTION, HDi, REVEiLLE, PROGRESS and CDDHD have released multiple HDDVDRips / BDRips.

The HDDVDrip / BDRip should not be confused with high definition TV rips, where we posted about before. The quality of these high definition tv rips is almost equal to the rips of hddvds and blu-rays.
HDDVD
Apart from the HDDVDRip, there is also one full HDDVD release. Full HDDVD releases are not popular right now, because there is no-one who can burn it. Therefore there is still just 1 release, from CLARiTY: Batman.Begins.2006.MORE.READ.NFO.HDDVD-CLARiTY. The release is 24.7 GB, which fits on a dual-layer HDDVD.

| Back again with another HD DVD, and this time the packer was smart enough to |
| pack the iso in 300 000 000 byte files. Sorry about that. Guess thats rule 1 |
| of the official HD DVD scene rules. Kinda obvious, but were not that smart. |

| We forgot to mention how to get PowerDVD 7.2 to install the HD version, and |
| not the BD version. Its pretty simple actually, just delete the PDVDBD dir |
| and rename PDVDHD to, you guessed it, PDVDBD. If you actually have a HD drive |
| in your system the HD version will be automatically installed. Ok, lets move |
| on. |

| Some might ask (we know you do) why we keep all extras and stuff in our |
| releases. The reason why is as simple as the PowerDVD "fix" above. Lets use |
| this release as an example, shall we? |
| |
| The HVDVD_TS dir is 24.7GB, of which the two feature files are 18.4GB, which |
| is more than what a single layer HD DVD would hold. Sure, the extra 6.3GB |
| take more space and bandwidth, but it would also mean that you wouldnt use |
| very much of the 30GB that a dual layer HD DVD can hold. You couldnt fit two |
| movies on there either, so we decided that well keep all extras. If, in the |
| future, we come across a movie that could fit on a single layer HD DVD if |
| extras are stripped, then we may rip those. Also, with time we will probably |
| see tools that can strip unwanted audio tracks, IME, U-CONTROL, and other |
| things they put in the main EVO files, which could mean getting releases down |
| in size. Time will tell. Oh, and were totally movie freaks with huge HDDs. |

| We also heard some people complaining we didnt remove HDCP, and we felt that |
| we had to address that. HDCP is not something you can remove from a movie, it |
| is something that the player controls. In order to watch King Kong without |
| issues, PowerDVD 7.2 was required, and unfortunately, they added/improved the |
| HDCP implementation a lot going from PowerDVD 6.5 to 7.2. This is nothing we |
| can do anything about, but maybe one of the groups who specialize in cracking |
| could. Nag them about a HDCP-free PowerDVD patch. By the way, Batman Begins |
| plays back perfectly in PowerDVD 6.5 (except for the IME part of course), so |
| no need to bitch about HDCP on this one. |

| A note on the sample is in order as well. To play the sample, use PowerDVDs |
| "Open movie files on hard disk drive," and navigate to the SAMPLE folder. It |
| was set up like this to get a proper working sample even though the movie has |
| IME. We also removed all subtitles, since they cant be turned off. |

| Our releases are for the early adopters out there, people who have the space |
| and bandwidth to download something like this. If you dont fall into this |
| category, grab a DVDR instead. |
